From all of us at Sheltering Hands, and the many cats in our community, we want to say thank you to the SPCA of Marion County, Inc.! They provide a monthly fund to our clinic exclusively to cover the cost of Spay and Neuter surgeries for cats in Marion County, Florida. By removing the financial barriers where money stands in the way of surgery or there is no direct owner to manage the wellness of the cat, we are able to provide more of these services to animals in need. Thank you to awesome individuals in this group for giving back to the animals of your community!!!!

A Senior's 'Tail'
When we lead with understanding instead of assumptions, we open the door for love stories like these.
For over two years, Oreo waited for his chance to be adopted at Winchester/Randolph County Animal Shelter in Indiana. This great dog kept getting overlooked.
Then on October 18, the shelter hosted a fee-waived adoption event in partnership with Best Friends. There, Oreo met a woman who'd been overlooked by 3 other shelters as well because she's older and uses oxygen. Her request to adopt a big dog had been turned down.
The Winchester Randolph team dug deeper and learned the woman had a fenced yard, a dog door, and family across the street ready to help. Instead of focusing on what she couldn’t do, the team focused on what she could. That conversation changed everything.
The woman and Oreo formed an instant connection. She fell in love, and Oreo walked right up to her and plopped down like he knew she was his person. They had both found someone who saw them for who they were.
These days Oreo is sleeping in bed with his new mom, dozing in his sunny window-watching spot, and running around in his big yard. Oreo's beautiful happy ending is only possible because the Winchester Randolph County Animal Shelter's team talked and listened, using open, conversational adoptions — and then made a perfect match.
